Beginner question: What are the basics I need to know before switching to natural paints?

I’m all about minimizing environmental impact too, so when I switched to natural paints, I also looked into sustainable application techniques. One thing I found helpful was using old newspapers or drop cloths made from recycled materials to protect my floors. It’s a small thing, but every bit helps. Also, consider the disposal of your paint cans and tools. Some brands offer recycling programs, which is a great way to reduce waste.

I’ve been using Earthborn Paints for a while now, and I’m really impressed with their claypaint. It’s true about the breathability; it really helps with the moisture in my old house. The finish is matte, which I love, but it might not be everyone’s cup of tea. As for Auro, I tried their plant-based paint in my kitchen, and it’s holding up well against steam and splashes. Both brands have their perks, so it might come down to the specific needs of your project.

Drying times can be a bit of a hassle with natural paints, but I found that using a dehumidifier in the room speeds things up a bit. Also, about the surface compatibility, I’ve used natural paints on both plaster and drywall without any issues. Just make sure the surface is clean and dry before you start. And yeah, testing the paint first is a must. The color can look totally different once it’s on the wall and dry.
