Beginner's guide to choosing the right natural paint for humidity-prone areas

Hey everyone! I’ve been diving deep into the world of natural paints recently, especially since I started renovating my bathroom. Living in a humid area, I quickly realized that not all paints are created equal when it comes to moisture resistance. I’ve tried a couple of eco-friendly options, but I’m still on the hunt for the perfect one. So far, I’ve experimented with Earthborn Claypaint and Auro Natural Paints, both of which claim to be breathable and resistant to mold. The Earthborn Claypaint was great for its matte finish and ease of application, but I’m curious about its long-term durability in such a damp environment. On the other hand, Auro’s range impressed me with their commitment to sustainability, but I found the application a bit tricky on previously painted surfaces.

I’m really keen to hear from anyone who’s tackled similar challenges. What natural paints have you used in humidity-prone areas? How did they hold up over time? Also, any tips on surface preparation to ensure the best adhesion and longevity would be greatly appreciated. Let’s share our experiences and help each other make more informed, eco-conscious choices for our homes!

Hey @EcoPainterJane, great topic! I’ve been using Biofa Natural Paints in my bathroom for over a year now, and I must say, it’s held up remarkably well against the humidity. The key for me was ensuring the walls were thoroughly cleaned and dried before application. I also used a natural primer from the same brand, which I think made a big difference in adhesion and durability.

@GreenThumb88, thanks for sharing your experience! I haven’t tried Biofa yet, but I’ll definitely look into it. Did you find the application process straightforward? Also, how does the finish look after a year?

@EcoPainterJane, the application was pretty straightforward, though it does require a bit of patience to get an even coat. As for the finish, it still looks great! There’s a slight sheen to it that I really like, and no signs of peeling or mold so far.

I’ve been experimenting with Ecos Organic Paint in my kitchen, which gets pretty steamy. It’s been a few months, and I’m impressed with how it’s holding up. The color hasn’t faded, and there’s no mold or mildew. Plus, it’s VOC-free, which is a big win for me. I did have to apply two coats for full coverage, but it was worth it for the peace of mind.

@EcoPainterJane, I made sure to clean the walls thoroughly and let them dry completely. I also lightly sanded any glossy areas to help with adhesion. It was a bit of work, but it paid off in the end.

I’ve been in the same boat, trying to find the perfect natural paint for my kitchen, which gets pretty steamy. I went with Ecos Organic Paints and it’s been a game-changer. The trick was definitely in the prep work. I made sure to sand down any glossy surfaces and used a dehumidifier for a couple of days before painting. It’s been six months, and so far, so good. No peeling or mold in sight.

Interesting to hear about Biofa Natural Paints. I’ve been considering them for my next project. How’s the color selection? I’m aiming for something vibrant but not too overwhelming. Also, did you notice any strong smells during application? I’m a bit sensitive to that, so it’s a big factor for me.

I tried Aglaia Natural Paints in my bathroom and it’s been holding up pretty well against the humidity. The application was smooth, and the finish is just what I was looking for. I did have to apply two coats for full coverage, but it was worth it. I’m curious about how different natural paints handle steam and condensation over time. Maybe we could share updates after a year or so to see how they’ve held up?

Interesting to hear about Ecos Organic Paint. I went with Biofa Natural Paints for my laundry room, which is always damp. It’s been six months, and so far, so good. The paint is breathable, which I think helps a lot with the moisture. The only downside is the limited color range, but I found a shade that works for me.

I tried Earthborn Claypaint in my kitchen, and while I love the finish, I did notice some areas where the moisture seems to be affecting it. Maybe I didn’t prep the surface well enough. I’m considering giving Ecos Organic Paint a try next, based on your experiences. How did you find the application process?

I’ve been on the fence about switching to natural paints, but hearing all these positive experiences is convincing me to give it a shot. My main concern is the cost. For those who’ve made the switch, do you think the benefits outweigh the higher price point? Also, any tips for first-timers on choosing the right paint for specific rooms?

I tried Aglaia for a small bathroom project. The mold resistance claim seems legit so far, but I did notice it took a bit longer to dry compared to other paints I’ve used. Maybe it’s because of the natural ingredients. Overall, I’m happy with the result, but patience is key during application.

Aglaia’s eco-credentials are top-notch, which is why I chose it for my bathroom. The application was a bit tricky on the ceiling, but the walls were fine. It’s been six months, and no signs of mold. I think proper ventilation plays a big role in maintaining the paint’s condition.
