Hey everyone!
I’ve been diving deep into the world of eco-friendly home renovations lately, especially focusing on natural paints. My latest project involved repainting my bathroom, a space notorious for mold and mildew. I wanted to share my journey and learn from your experiences too!
I stumbled upon natural mold inhibitors in paints, which are a game-changer for damp areas. Brands like Earthborn and Auro use ingredients like borates and plant-based oils to prevent mold growth without harsh chemicals. I went with Earthborn’s Claypaint for its breathability and natural mold resistance. It was my first time using a clay-based paint, and I was amazed at how well it adhered to the walls, even in high humidity.
Previously, I’ve tried Eco Paints and Biofa, which are also fantastic, but I was curious about the mold inhibitors. The application was smooth, and the finish was matte, giving my bathroom a cozy, earthy vibe. I’m still monitoring how it holds up against mold, but so far, so good!
I’m eager to hear from you all! Have you used paints with natural mold inhibitors? How did they perform in your spaces? Any tips for a newbie like me on maintaining these eco-friendly finishes? Let’s share our stories and tips for a greener, healthier home!

Great topic, @EcoPainter88! I’ve also been exploring natural paints for my home. I used Auro’s plant-based paint in my kitchen, which has a similar issue with humidity. The natural mold inhibitors in their formula are impressive. It’s been six months, and I haven’t seen any mold yet. The key, I think, is ensuring good ventilation. Have you considered adding an exhaust fan to your bathroom?

@GreenThumb99, thanks for the tip! I do have an exhaust fan, but I’m thinking of upgrading it for better airflow. It’s reassuring to hear about your positive experience with Auro. I’ll definitely consider it for my next project. How was the application process for you?

I’m just starting to look into eco-friendly paints, and this discussion is super helpful! I had no idea about natural mold inhibitors. Does anyone know if these paints are safe for kids’ rooms? I’m particularly concerned about the ingredients.

@SunnyDays23, absolutely! Most natural paints, including those with mold inhibitors, are non-toxic and safe for children. Brands like Earthborn and Auro are very transparent about their ingredients. I used Earthborn’s Claypaint in my nursery, and it’s been fantastic. The matte finish is perfect for hiding little fingerprints!

I’ve been using Biofa paints for a while now, and I’m a big fan. Their natural mold inhibitors work wonders in my basement, which used to be a mold hotspot. The application is a bit different from conventional paints, though. It took me a couple of tries to get the hang of it, but the results are worth it. Anyone else have tips for first-time users?

@DIYQueen, I completely agree about the learning curve with natural paints. For Earthborn’s Claypaint, I found that using a high-quality natural bristle brush made a big difference in the application. It helped achieve a smoother finish. Also, applying thin coats and allowing ample drying time between them was key. How many coats did you end up using with Biofa?

Hey @EcoPainter88, your project sounds awesome! I’ve been using Biofa in my living room and it’s been holding up pretty well against the test of time and my two cats. I haven’t ventured into the bathroom yet, but your post is making me consider it. How’s the color selection with Earthborn? I’m a bit worried about finding the right shade.
Interesting read! I’ve been on the fence about switching to eco-friendly paints due to the cost. But hearing about the mold resistance is a game-changer for me. Does anyone know if these natural mold inhibitors affect the paint’s durability over time? I’d hate to repaint every year.
@EcoPainter88, I’m curious about the application process. Was it any different from using regular paint? I’ve heard some natural paints can be a bit tricky to work with. Also, did you notice any difference in drying time?

I’ve been using Auro in my bedroom and it’s been fantastic. The smell is so much better than traditional paints, and it’s been a few months with no issues. I agree with the ventilation point though. I keep my windows open as much as possible. Has anyone tried combining these paints with natural ventilation solutions like cross-ventilation?

Just wanted to chime in and say that I’ve been experimenting with making my own natural paint using lime and natural pigments. It’s been a fun project, and the results are surprisingly good. Has anyone else tried DIY natural paints? I’d love to exchange recipes and tips.

I’m all for eco-friendly solutions, but I’m a bit skeptical about the effectiveness of natural mold inhibitors in really damp areas. Has anyone tested these paints in a basement or a laundry room? I’d be interested to hear about long-term results in those kinds of environments.
Hey, great question about kids’ rooms! From what I’ve gathered, paints with natural mold inhibitors like borates are generally considered safe for children’s spaces. They’re designed to be non-toxic and eco-friendly. However, it’s always a good idea to check the specific product’s safety data sheet or reach out to the manufacturer for peace of mind. I used Earthborn in my nursery, and it’s been fantastic. No issues so far, and the peace of mind knowing it’s safer for my little one is priceless.

I’ve been using eco-friendly paints for a while now, and I can vouch for their safety in kids’ rooms. The key is to look for certifications like the EU Ecolabel or similar, which ensure the product meets strict environmental and health standards. I used Auro in my daughter’s room, and not only does it look great, but it also feels good knowing it’s better for the planet and her health.
Just a heads-up, while natural mold inhibitors in paints are a great step forward, ventilation is still crucial, especially in kids’ rooms. I made sure to keep the windows open for a few days after painting, even though I used Biofa, which is known for its low VOC content. It’s all about creating a healthy environment for our kids, and every little bit helps.

I’m all for eco-friendly paints, but I think it’s important to manage expectations. While natural mold inhibitors are effective, they might not be as long-lasting as some chemical alternatives in extremely damp conditions. I used Eco Paints in my bathroom, and while it’s held up well, I’ve noticed a bit of mold in the corners after a year. Regular cleaning and good ventilation are key to maintaining the paint’s effectiveness.

Interesting discussion! I’m curious about the durability of these eco-friendly paints with natural mold inhibitors. Has anyone done a long-term test, say over a couple of years, to see how they hold up in high-moisture areas like bathrooms? I’m considering repainting my kitchen and would love to hear about your experiences with wear and tear over time.

I’ve been experimenting with Earthborn paints in my kitchen, and I must say, the difference is night and day. The natural mold inhibitors really do their job, especially in a space that’s constantly exposed to steam and moisture. It’s been a few months, and I haven’t seen a single spot of mold. The key for me was ensuring the walls were completely dry before application. Anyone else notice how crucial prep work is with these eco-friendly paints?

Totally agree on the prep work! I used Auro in my bathroom, and the first time I rushed the drying process. Big mistake. Had to redo it. Second time around, patience paid off. The paint adhered much better, and the finish was flawless. It’s interesting how these natural paints demand a bit more care but reward you with durability and no nasty chemicals. Has anyone tried mixing brands for different rooms? Curious if that affects the overall vibe of the house.
