Best non-toxic paint options for cabinet interiors: A beginner's guide

Hey everyone! :herb: I’ve recently taken on the challenge of updating my kitchen cabinets and, as someone deeply committed to green living, I’m on the hunt for the best non-toxic paint options for the interiors. I’ve dabbled with a few eco-friendly paints in the past, like Earthborn’s Claypaint and Ecos Paints, which have been great for walls, but I’m curious about their performance on cabinet interiors. Specifically, I’m looking for something durable, easy to clean, and of course, non-toxic.

I’ve heard that Biofa’s Interior Paint is another excellent choice for cabinets, offering a hard-wearing finish that’s also environmentally friendly. Has anyone tried this or have other recommendations? I’m particularly interested in how these paints hold up against moisture and grease, common in kitchen environments. Also, any tips on surface preparation for a smooth, lasting finish would be greatly appreciated!

Let’s share our experiences and tips on navigating the world of non-toxic paints for cabinet interiors. What brands have you tried, and how did they perform? Any application tips or lessons learned from your projects? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and suggestions!

I’ve been using Ecos Paints for my kitchen cabinets and I must say, the durability is impressive! It’s been over a year and they still look as good as new. The key is in the preparation - make sure to sand the surfaces well and apply a primer. This ensures the paint adheres properly and lasts longer. Also, their non-toxic formula is a big plus for me, especially in a space where food is prepared.

@GreenThumb88 Thanks for sharing your experience! I’ve been leaning towards Ecos Paints for this project. Did you use any specific type of primer, or would any eco-friendly primer work? Also, how does it hold up against moisture and grease?

@EcoPainterJane I used Ecos Paints’ own primer, which is also non-toxic and worked perfectly with their paint. As for moisture and grease, I haven’t had any issues. I do clean my cabinets regularly with a mild, eco-friendly cleaner, and the paint has held up really well. No peeling or discoloration so far!

Has anyone tried Biofa’s Interior Paint for cabinets? I’m curious about its performance compared to Ecos Paints. I’m looking for something that’s not only eco-friendly but also has a matte finish. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

@SandyShore I used Biofa’s Interior Paint for my bathroom cabinets, and it’s been fantastic. The matte finish is exactly what I wanted, and it’s held up really well against humidity. I can’t speak for kitchen cabinets specifically, but if it can handle the bathroom, I’d imagine it would do well in the kitchen too. Just make sure to follow the prep steps - clean and sand the surfaces before painting.

I’m all for eco-friendly paints, but I’m curious about the color options. Do brands like Ecos Paints and Biofa offer a wide range of colors, or are we limited to more natural tones? I’m looking to add a pop of color to my kitchen but don’t want to compromise on the eco-friendly aspect.

@MountainBreeze Great question! From what I’ve seen, Ecos Paints offers a pretty extensive color palette, including some vibrant options. Biofa seems to lean more towards natural tones, but they do have a selection of colors beyond just earth tones. It might be worth checking out their websites or contacting them directly for specific color options.

That’s great to hear about Ecos Paints! I went with Biofa’s Interior Paint for my cabinets and I’m really happy with the outcome. It’s been about six months, and there’s no sign of wear or tear, even around the handles where you’d expect it first. The finish is super smooth, and cleaning is a breeze. Just a damp cloth does the trick. I agree, preparation is crucial. I spent a good amount of time sanding and priming, and it paid off.

Interesting to see Ecos Paints and Biofa’s Interior Paint getting love here. I tried Earthborn’s Claypaint for my cabinets, and while I love the eco-friendly aspect, I found it a bit less durable than I hoped. It’s been about eight months, and I’m noticing some areas where the paint has chipped, especially near the sink. Maybe I didn’t prep the surface well enough? Or perhaps it’s just not as hard-wearing as the others mentioned. I’m considering giving Ecos Paints a try next time, based on your experiences.

I’ve actually used Biofa’s Interior Paint for my bathroom cabinets and it’s held up surprisingly well against moisture. The matte finish is exactly what I was looking for, giving a modern yet understated look. Compared to Ecos Paints, I found Biofa to be a bit more durable, especially in high-moisture areas. However, prep work is key. Make sure to sand and prime your cabinets well for the best results.

I’m a big fan of Ecos Paints for their wide range of colors and the fact that they’re non-toxic. I used them on my kitchen cabinets and they’ve been easy to clean, which is a huge plus. I haven’t tried Biofa’s paint, but from what I’ve heard, it’s also a great option. It really comes down to personal preference and the specific needs of your space. Maybe consider getting samples of both to test out?

Just chiming in to say that I used Biofa for a small project and was impressed with its coverage and how eco-friendly it is. It’s a bit pricier than some other options, but I think it’s worth it for the quality and peace of mind knowing it’s non-toxic. I haven’t used Ecos Paints, so I can’t compare, but Biofa’s matte finish is really nice and has held up well so far.

I’ve been on the lookout for non-toxic paint options too and stumbled upon Biofa’s Interior Paint. Haven’t tried it yet, but your positive experiences are making me consider it for my next project. How does it handle grease and kitchen stains? That’s my main concern since I’m planning to use it for kitchen cabinets. Also, any tips on achieving a smooth finish without brush marks?

The finish was durable and easy to clean, which is a big plus for kitchen cabinets. Just make sure to prep the surface well for the best results.

Biofa does offer a decent range of colors, but I found their selection leans more towards the natural and muted side. If you’re looking for something really bold, you might have to mix your own or look into another brand. Their paint is top-notch in terms of eco-friendliness and durability, though.

I went with Earthborn’s Claypaint for my cabinets and was happy with the color options. They have a good mix of natural and more vibrant colors. The paint itself is easy to work with and has held up well over time. Just a heads up, though, it might take a couple of coats to get full coverage with some of the lighter colors.

If you’re after a wide color palette, you might want to check out some of the newer eco-friendly paint brands that have popped up recently. They’re pushing the boundaries with their color options and still keeping things non-toxic. I can’t remember the names off the top of my head, but a quick search should turn them up.

I think the key with eco-friendly paints is to not just look at the big names. There are smaller brands out there doing some really interesting things with colors and finishes. It might take a bit more research, but you can find some unique options that way. Plus, it’s always nice to support smaller businesses when you can.
