Hey everyone!
I’m in the middle of transforming my dimly lit home office into a more vibrant and eco-friendly workspace. I’ve been on a mission to find the perfect VOC-free paint that not only brightens up the space but also aligns with my green living values. So far, I’ve experimented with Earthborn Claypaint and Auro Natural Paints, both of which have impressed me with their low environmental impact and ease of application. However, I’m curious about your experiences with these or other brands in spaces that don’t get much natural light.
I’m particularly interested in how these paints perform on plaster walls, as that’s what I’m working with. Also, any tips on choosing colors that can help maximize the sense of light in a room would be greatly appreciated. Have you found certain shades or finishes to be more effective in creating a brighter atmosphere?
Lastly, I’m always on the lookout for paints that go beyond just being VOC-free—like those made with renewable resources or that come in recyclable packaging. If you’ve come across any brands that tick these boxes, I’d love to hear about them. Let’s share our finds and help each other make more sustainable choices for our homes!
Hey @EcoPainter88! I’ve been in a similar situation with my home office. I used Earthborn Claypaint as well and found it to be a great choice for plaster walls. It has a nice matte finish that doesn’t reflect too much light, which can actually help in making the room feel brighter. For colors, I went with a soft, warm white that really opened up the space. Have you considered using mirrors or reflective surfaces to enhance the light?

I’m a big fan of Auro Natural Paints! Their range of colors is fantastic, and I love that they’re made with renewable resources. For a room with limited natural light, I’d recommend going for lighter shades with a slight yellow or pink undertone to warm up the space. Also, their packaging is recyclable, which is a huge plus for me.

@GreenThumb99 Thanks for the tip about the matte finish! I hadn’t thought about how the finish could affect the light. I’ll definitely consider adding some mirrors to help bounce light around the room. Do you have any specific recommendations for warm whites?

Has anyone tried Biofa Paints? I’ve heard they’re VOC-free and come in recyclable packaging. I’m curious about their performance on plaster walls and if they have any colors that are particularly good for brightening up a space.

@NatureLover23 I’ve used Biofa Paints in my living room, which also has plaster walls. I found their coverage to be excellent, and the colors stayed vibrant over time. For brightening up a space, I’d recommend their ‘Morning Light’ shade. It’s a very soft, warm white that really helps to make the room feel more open and airy.

I’m all about maximizing light in darker spaces! One tip I haven’t seen mentioned yet is the importance of sheen. A satin or semi-gloss finish can really help reflect light around the room. I used Ecos Paints in a satin finish for my home office, and it made a huge difference. Plus, they’re VOC-free and have a great range of eco-friendly options.

@LightSeeker77 That’s a great point about sheen! I hadn’t considered how it could impact light reflection. I’ll definitely look into Ecos Paints and their satin finish options. Thanks for the recommendation!

I’ve been using Auro Natural Paints in my home office too, and I’m really happy with how it turned out. The color I chose was a light sage green, which surprisingly made the room feel more alive despite the lack of natural light. I think the key is in the finish; I went for a satin finish which helps reflect a bit of light without being too glossy. Have you thought about the finish of the paint you’re using?

I tried Earthborn Claypaint in my living room, which also has limited natural light, and it worked wonders. I chose a pale yellow, and it really brightened up the space. I agree with the previous comment about the matte finish; it’s perfect for not overwhelming the room with too much reflection. Mirrors are a great idea too, I’ve placed a couple around to help bounce light around.
I’m all about that eco-friendly life, so I went with Biofa Natural Paints for my office. They’re not just VOC-free but also made from natural ingredients. I picked a light lavender shade, and it’s been great for creating a calming yet bright environment. The packaging is recyclable too, which is a big plus for me. Have you checked them out?

I’ve been experimenting with Ecos Organic Paints and found their range of whites and off-whites to be fantastic for spaces with little natural light. They offer a variety of finishes, and I went with a soft sheen for a subtle glow. It’s also worth mentioning their commitment to sustainability, which aligns with my values. What’s your take on organic paints?
I used Little Greene’s Absolute Matt Emulsion in my office, and it’s been a game-changer. The color I chose is a very light grey, and it’s made the room feel so much more spacious and bright. Their paints are eco-friendly and have a low environmental impact, which was important to me. Plus, the matte finish is perfect for hiding imperfections on plaster walls.
I’ve been looking into Farrow & Ball’s Estate Emulsion for my next project. They have a beautiful range of colors that are supposed to work well in low light. I’m considering a soft pink to add warmth without making the room feel smaller. Their paints are also eco-conscious, which is a big plus. Has anyone tried their paints in a similar setting?

I’ve actually used Biofa Paints in my own home office, which, like yours, doesn’t get a ton of natural light. I went with their ‘Linen White’ and it really helped brighten up the space. The paint went on smoothly over plaster walls, no issues there. Plus, knowing it’s VOC-free and comes in recyclable packaging made me feel good about the choice. Definitely recommend giving it a try.

Haven’t tried Biofa myself, but I’m all for exploring eco-friendly options. I used ECOS Paints in my living room, which is pretty dim, and it made a huge difference. They have a wide range of colors designed to reflect light better. Might be worth looking into if you’re still on the fence.

I’m curious about the durability of these eco-friendly paints. I’ve used some in the past that looked great initially but didn’t hold up well over time. Has anyone noticed any issues with Biofa or ECOS Paints in terms of how they wear?

To the durability question, I’ve had Biofa on my walls for about two years now and it’s holding up really well. No fading or chipping, even in high traffic areas. I think the key is proper wall prep before painting. Makes all the difference.

I’m all about the eco-friendly aspect, but I also need something that’s easy to clean, especially in a home office where I’m constantly touching the walls. Does anyone know if Biofa or ECOS Paints are washable?

Both Biofa and ECOS offer washable options, which is a lifesaver in a home office setting. I’ve wiped down my walls a few times with a damp cloth and the paint hasn’t budged. It’s great for keeping the space looking fresh without having to repaint every time there’s a smudge.
