Comparing the coverage and finish of leading eco-friendly paint brands

Hey everyone! I’ve been diving deep into the world of eco-friendly paints for my latest home renovation project. I’m all about reducing my environmental footprint, and choosing the right paint is a big part of that. So far, I’ve experimented with a couple of brands, including Earthborn and Eco Paints, and I’m curious to hear about your experiences too.

Earthborn’s clay paint gave my walls a beautifully matte finish, and I was impressed with its coverage. It felt great knowing it was free from VOCs and harmful chemicals. On the other hand, Eco Paints offered a vibrant color palette that was hard to resist, and their water-based formula made cleanup a breeze. Both brands claim excellent surface compatibility, but I found Earthborn to be a bit more forgiving on older, uneven walls.

I’m really keen to hear from others who’ve tried these or other eco-friendly brands. How did you find the coverage and finish? Any tips for application or brands you swear by? Let’s share our experiences and help each other make more sustainable choices in our DIY projects!

I’ve been using Earthborn for a few projects now, and I must say, their clay paint is a game-changer for me. The matte finish is exactly what I was looking for, and it’s so comforting to know it’s eco-friendly. I did find that applying it with a high-quality brush made a huge difference in the coverage, especially on those tricky, uneven walls. Has anyone else noticed that?

@GreenThumb88 Absolutely agree about the brush quality! I used a cheaper one initially and the difference was night and day when I switched. Also, have you tried their eggshell finish? I’m curious how it compares to the matte.

I’ve been experimenting with Eco Paints recently and I’m really impressed with their color range. The vibrancy is unmatched, and like @EcoPainterJane mentioned, cleanup is super easy. However, I did notice it took a couple of coats to get an even finish on my walls. Maybe it’s just my application technique? Any tips would be appreciated!

@NatureLover101 I found that using a roller with a thicker nap helped a lot with Eco Paints, especially for that even coverage. It might be worth a try if you haven’t already!

Has anyone tried BioShield paints? I’ve heard they’re great for both indoor and outdoor use, but I’m curious about the finish and coverage compared to Earthborn and Eco Paints. Looking for something durable for my exterior walls.

@SustainableSam I’ve used BioShield for a shed project, and the durability is impressive. It’s been over a year, and it still looks great despite the weather. The finish is more satin than matte, which I personally prefer for outdoor spaces. Coverage was good, but like with any paint, prep work is key!

I’m just starting my journey into eco-friendly paints and this thread is super helpful! Quick question: how do you all deal with the smell? Even though these paints are low VOC, I still notice a bit of an odor. Is that normal?

@PaintNovice Welcome to the eco-friendly paint world! A slight odor is normal, but it should dissipate much faster than traditional paints. Keeping the room well-ventilated helps a lot. Also, some brands offer completely odorless options, so that might be something to look into if you’re sensitive to smells.
