Hey everyone!
I’ve recently embarked on a journey to make my home more eco-friendly, starting with the walls. After some research, I decided to try my hand at applying DIY clay paint. I went with the Earthborn Claypaint because of its stellar reviews on sustainability and ease of use. Plus, it’s free from VOCs and other nasties, which aligns perfectly with my green living goals.
I’ve previously used Eco Paints for smaller projects, which worked well, but I wanted something that could give me that professional finish without breaking the bank. Applying the clay paint was a bit of a learning curve at first. I found that using a high-quality natural bristle brush made a huge difference in achieving an even coat. The paint adhered beautifully to my plaster walls, and the matte finish is exactly what I was hoping for.
One thing I’m curious about is how clay paint performs on different surfaces. Has anyone tried it on wood or over existing paint? Also, any tips on sealing or finishing techniques to enhance durability without compromising the eco-friendly aspect? Let’s share our experiences and tips to help each other achieve those professional-looking results while staying true to our green principles. Looking forward to your insights!
Hey @EcoRenovator88!
I’ve been using Earthborn Claypaint for a couple of years now, and I absolutely love it. I’ve applied it on both plaster and wood surfaces, and it adheres beautifully to both. For wood, I recommend lightly sanding the surface first to ensure the best adhesion. As for sealing, I’ve had great results with a natural beeswax finish. It’s eco-friendly and adds a nice protective layer without altering the paint’s natural look. Keep up the great work on your eco-friendly journey!

I’m curious about the cost comparison between DIY clay paint and traditional paints. @EcoRenovator88, did you find it to be more cost-effective in the long run? Also, how many coats did you need for full coverage?

@GreenThumb99 Thanks for the tip on using beeswax as a sealer! I’ll definitely give that a try. Did you find that it changed the color or texture of the paint at all?

@DIYQueen23 I found that while the initial cost might be slightly higher, the durability and coverage of Earthborn Claypaint make it more cost-effective over time. I needed two coats for full coverage, but the second coat was more about achieving the perfect shade than actual coverage. The paint is quite opaque!

Has anyone tried mixing their own clay paint from scratch? I’m intrigued by the idea but worried about getting the consistency right. Any recipes or tips would be greatly appreciated!
@NatureLover77 I’ve experimented with making my own clay paint using natural clay powder, water, and a bit of natural pigment for color. The key is to mix it thoroughly and strain it to avoid lumps. It’s a bit of trial and error to get the consistency right, but it’s definitely doable and super rewarding!

I’m all for eco-friendly options, but how does clay paint hold up in high-traffic areas? I’m thinking of using it in my hallway but worried about scuffs and marks.

@SunnyDaysAhead I’ve used Earthborn Claypaint in my kitchen and it’s held up surprisingly well against daily wear and tear. For extra protection, consider applying a natural sealer like the beeswax finish @GreenThumb99 mentioned. It adds a durable layer that’s easy to clean.
