Hey everyone! I’ve been on a mission to make my home more eco-friendly, and part of that journey has been exploring natural paint options. Recently, I noticed some peeling paint in my living room, and instead of reaching for the usual chemical-laden solutions, I decided to look into natural alternatives. That’s when I stumbled upon clay paint. I’m curious, has anyone here tried using clay paint for similar issues?
I’ve been experimenting with Earthborn Claypaint for a small project and was impressed by its coverage and the rich, matte finish it provided. It’s breathable, which is great for older homes like mine, and it’s made from natural ingredients, which aligns with my sustainability goals. Before this, I tried a milk paint on a piece of furniture, which was also a great experience, but I’m wondering how clay paint holds up on walls, especially in areas prone to moisture.
I’m particularly interested in hearing about your experiences with clay paint or any other natural paint solutions for peeling paint. How did it work out for you? Any tips on application or brands you’d recommend? Also, how do you think it compares to more conventional eco-friendly paints in terms of durability and finish? Let’s share our stories and tips to help each other out in our green living journeys!
Hey @EcoPainterJane, I’ve been using Earthborn Claypaint for a couple of years now, and it’s been a game-changer for my home. The breathability is fantastic, especially in my bathroom where moisture used to be a big issue. I found that applying it with a natural bristle brush gives the best finish. Have you tried it in high-moisture areas yet?

I’m curious about the durability of clay paint compared to other eco-friendly options. Has anyone done a long-term comparison? I’m considering switching but worried about how it holds up over time.

@GreenThumb88, thanks for sharing your experience! I haven’t tried it in high-moisture areas yet, but your tip about the natural bristle brush is noted. I’ll definitely give it a try. How often do you find yourself needing to touch up or repaint those areas?

I’ve experimented with both Earthborn Claypaint and Auro Natural Paint for peeling paint issues. Both have their merits, but I found Auro to be slightly more durable in high-traffic areas. However, the color richness of Earthborn is unmatched. It really depends on what’s more important for your project.

Has anyone tried mixing their own natural paint? I’ve been playing around with clay, chalk, and natural pigments, and while it’s a bit of a learning curve, the results can be stunning. Plus, it’s super eco-friendly and cost-effective!

I’ve been using clay paint in my home for about two years now, and I must say, it’s held up pretty well. The key is proper surface preparation. I made sure to clean and sand the walls before applying the paint. It’s been great in areas with moderate moisture, like my kitchen. However, in the bathroom, I noticed some issues after a year, so I switched to a more moisture-resistant eco-friendly paint there. Overall, I’m happy with the durability and the aesthetic it provides.
I tried clay paint in my living room and was initially impressed by the finish and the eco-friendly aspect. But, after a year, I noticed some areas where the paint started to peel, especially near the windows where there’s more sunlight exposure. I think it might not be the best for areas with direct sunlight or high moisture. I’m considering trying a different natural paint option for those areas. Has anyone else experienced this with clay paint?
I’ve been using clay paint for a while now, and honestly, it’s been a game-changer for my old house. The breathability factor is a huge plus, especially in damp areas. I haven’t tried Auro yet, but Earthborn has been fantastic for me. The finish is just so rich and natural-looking. For anyone on the fence, I’d say give it a go, especially if you’re into that matte look.

Interesting to hear about Auro being more durable. I’ve only used Earthborn so far and loved the eco-friendly aspect, but durability is a concern in my kitchen. Maybe I’ll give Auro a try there. Has anyone else compared the two in high-moisture areas like kitchens or bathrooms?

I tried clay paint in my bathroom, and while I love the aesthetic, I did notice it needed more frequent touch-ups compared to conventional paints. Maybe it’s the brand I used, but it’s something to consider if you’re looking for low maintenance. Still, the non-toxic aspect makes it worth it for me.

Just a heads-up for those considering clay paint, make sure your walls are properly prepped. I learned the hard way that it doesn’t adhere well to glossy surfaces. A good sanding and primer made all the difference for me. Also, the application can be a bit tricky, so take your time with it.
I’m curious about the color options with these natural paints. I’ve heard they can be limited compared to conventional paints. Has anyone found a brand that offers a wide range of colors without compromising on the eco-friendly aspect?
For those worried about the durability of clay paint, I found that adding a natural wax finish can really help protect the surface, especially in high-traffic areas. It’s an extra step, but it extends the life of the paint significantly. Plus, it adds a nice sheen to the matte finish.

I’ve been curious about clay paint too, especially for its eco-friendly aspect. I haven’t tried Earthborn Claypaint yet, but I did use a different brand for a small bathroom project. The moisture resistance was decent, but I noticed it needed a bit more maintenance compared to conventional paints. Still, the natural look and feel are unbeatable. Has anyone else noticed this trade-off?
