Hey everyone!
I’m in the middle of giving my kitchen a much-needed makeover and I’ve hit a bit of a snag. I’m committed to using only eco-friendly and natural products, but I’m struggling to find the right paint for the high-moisture areas around my sink and stove. I’ve previously used Earthborn Claypaint in my living room and loved its breathability and low VOC content, but I’m not sure if it’s the best fit for the kitchen’s humidity.
I’ve also tried Auro Natural Paint in my bathroom, which held up pretty well against moisture, but I’m curious if there’s something even better suited for the kitchen environment. I’m looking for something that can withstand steam and splashes without compromising on my eco-friendly standards. Does anyone have experience with Biofa or Ecos Organic Paints in similar conditions? I’m particularly interested in how these paints perform on plaster walls and whether they require a special primer or sealant.
Lastly, I’m always on the lookout for paints that use sustainable packaging or have a lower carbon footprint in their production. If you’ve come across any brands that excel in these areas, I’d love to hear about them. Let’s share our experiences and help each other make our homes more sustainable, one room at a time!
Hey @GreenThumbJenny! I’ve been in a similar situation with my kitchen. I used Biofa for the high-moisture areas and it’s been holding up great. It’s specifically designed for areas like kitchens and bathrooms, with excellent moisture resistance. Plus, it’s eco-friendly and has a low VOC content, which is a big win for me. I didn’t use a special primer, just made sure the walls were clean and dry before applying. It’s been a year now, and no issues with steam or splashes!

Thanks @EcoWarriorDave! That’s really helpful to know. Did you find that Biofa required any special maintenance or touch-ups over time? Also, how was the application process? I’m hoping for something that’s not too labor-intensive.

No special maintenance needed so far, @GreenThumbJenny. The application was pretty straightforward. I used a roller for the walls and a brush for the edges. It dried evenly and didn’t have any strong odors, which was a plus. Just make sure to ventilate the area well while painting and drying.

I’ve had a great experience with Ecos Organic Paints in my kitchen. They offer a range of eco-friendly paints that are perfect for high-moisture areas. Their Kitchen & Bathroom Paint is specifically formulated to resist mold and mildew, which is a big concern in kitchens. The application was smooth, and it’s held up really well against steam and splashes. Plus, their commitment to sustainable packaging and low carbon footprint is impressive.

That sounds exactly like what I’m looking for, @SustainableSally! How does the Ecos Organic Paints compare in terms of color options and finish? I’m aiming for a matte finish that can still handle the kitchen’s demands.

I haven’t tried Biofa or Ecos Organic Paints, but I’ve been using Aglaia Natural Paints for my kitchen and it’s been fantastic. It’s breathable, eco-friendly, and has excellent moisture resistance. The application was a breeze, and it’s held up against all the kitchen chaos. Plus, they use sustainable packaging, which aligns with my eco-friendly goals.

Thanks for the suggestion, @NatureLoverTom! I’ll definitely look into Aglaia Natural Paints. How does it perform in terms of coverage and how many coats did you need?

The coverage is excellent, @GreenThumbJenny. I only needed two coats for a solid, even finish. It dries quickly between coats, so the whole process was faster than I expected. Definitely a fan!

I tried Biofa in my bathroom and it was a game-changer. The moisture resistance is top-notch, and it’s so eco-friendly. I haven’t used it in the kitchen yet, but based on my bathroom experience, I’d say go for it. It’s a bit pricier, but you get what you pay for in terms of quality and sustainability.

I’m all about Auro Natural Paint for high-moisture areas. Used it in both my kitchen and bathroom, and it’s been brilliant. It’s got this natural resistance to mold and mildew, which is a huge plus. Plus, it’s eco-friendly and has a low VOC content. I did use a primer just to be safe, but it’s not strictly necessary. Highly recommend it if you’re looking for something durable and green.

I’ve been on the hunt for eco-friendly paints too and recently came across Lullaby Paints. They’re specifically designed for nurseries but claim to be great for any room, including kitchens. They’re zero VOC, non-toxic, and come in sustainable packaging. I haven’t tried them yet, but they’re on my list for my next project. Might be worth a look if you’re exploring all options.

Just wanted to chime in about Earthborn Claypaint. I know you’ve used it before, but I used it in my kitchen and it’s been surprisingly resilient. I was a bit skeptical at first because of the moisture, but it’s held up really well. It’s breathable, which I think helps with the humidity. Plus, it’s eco-friendly and has a beautiful matte finish. Maybe give it another shot with a good sealant for extra protection?

I tried Auro Natural Paint in my kitchen, and while it’s good, I found it needed a couple of coats to really get the coverage I wanted. It’s held up well against moisture, but I think next time I might try Ecos or Biofa to compare. It’s great to see so many eco-friendly options out there now.
Has anyone tried Lullaby Paints? I’ve heard they’re great for high-moisture areas and are super eco-friendly. I’m considering them for my kitchen redo but would love to hear from someone who’s actually used them. Also, how do they compare to Ecos and Biofa in terms of application and durability?

I’m curious about the sustainable packaging aspect. Ecos sounds great, but I’m also looking for brands that minimize plastic use. Does anyone know if Biofa or Lullaby Paints are doing better in this area? It’s something I’m really trying to focus on with my home projects.
