Recommendations for the best VOC-free paint for children's rooms

Hey everyone! :herb: I’m in the middle of transforming my little one’s room into a more vibrant and safe space, and I’m on the hunt for the best VOC-free paint options out there. I’ve been leaning towards Earthborn Paints because of their clay-based formula and the fact they’re completely VOC-free, which is a huge win for indoor air quality. Plus, their color palette is just stunning! :art:

I’ve previously tried Eco Paints for my living room, and while I loved the environmental aspect, I found the application a bit tricky on certain surfaces. It got me thinking – what’s your go-to VOC-free paint for children’s rooms? Have you found any brands that are particularly easy to apply or have better coverage? Also, how do you ensure the paint is compatible with different surfaces like plaster or wood?

I’m super curious to hear about your experiences and any tips you might have for making the painting process as eco-friendly and smooth as possible. Let’s share our knowledge and help each other create safer, more beautiful spaces for our kids! :rainbow:

Hey @EcoPainterJane! :seedling: I recently used Earthborn Paints for my daughter’s room and was blown away by the quality. The coverage was excellent, and the colors are so vibrant. Plus, knowing it’s VOC-free gives me peace of mind. For surfaces, I found it adhered well to both plaster and wood, but make sure to sand the surface lightly for better adhesion. Highly recommend giving it a try!

I’ve been on a similar journey and tried BioShield Paints for my kid’s room. It’s another great VOC-free option with a wide range of colors. Application was smooth, and it dried quickly. However, I did notice it required a second coat for full coverage on darker walls. Overall, a solid choice for eco-conscious parents!

Thanks @GreenThumb88! :rainbow: I’m glad to hear about your positive experience with Earthborn Paints. The tip about sanding surfaces is super helpful. Did you use any special primer, or was the paint good to go straight out of the can?

@NatureLover23, I’ve been curious about BioShield Paints. How does it compare to Earthborn Paints in terms of odor during application? I’m particularly sensitive to smells, so looking for something as odorless as possible.

For those considering Eco Paints, I found that using a high-quality natural bristle brush made a world of difference in application. It helped with the coverage and made the process smoother. Also, ensuring the room is well-ventilated is key, even with VOC-free paints, to help with drying times and reducing any minimal odors.

@EcoPainterJane, I didn’t use any special primer. The Earthborn Paints adhered beautifully directly onto the sanded surfaces. It’s designed to be user-friendly, which I really appreciated. Just make sure to stir it well before use!

@SunnyDays45, BioShield Paints has a very mild odor compared to traditional paints, but I did notice a slight smell during application. It dissipated quickly, though. If you’re highly sensitive, maybe test a small area first or consider Earthborn Paints, which I’ve heard has an even fainter odor.

Has anyone tried Auro Paints? I’ve read they’re not only VOC-free but also made from natural raw materials. I’m considering them for my next project but would love to hear firsthand experiences, especially regarding application and durability.

@EcoWarrior77, I haven’t personally used Auro Paints, but a friend swears by them for their durability and eco-credentials. They mentioned the application was straightforward, but the paint does have a longer drying time, so patience is key. Might be worth a try for your project!
